  • The company plans to begin operations in Phoenix and extend its Texas testing program into Dallas, adding two new urban markets for vehicle trials.
  • New facilities in Arizona and Texas, including a Scottsdale operations center, are expected to support fleet coordination and create hundreds of local jobs.

Zoox announced plans to begin operations in Arizona, starting in Phoenix, while expanding its Texas testing program to Dallas. With these additions, the company says its fleet will operate across ten markets, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Las Vegas, Seattle, Austin, Miami, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Washington D.C.

The rollout will follow the company’s standard testing process using a small group of retrofitted SUVs. Teams will begin with manual street mapping before moving into autonomous driving tests, with a safety driver in the vehicle who can disengage the system if needed. Zoox also said it will open new depots in Phoenix and Dallas and establish a Fusion Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, which the company says will create hundreds of jobs in the surrounding communities. Fusion Centers serve as a command center for fleet operations where teams provide teleguidance, mission control, and rider support.

Zoox says it has driven more than one million autonomous miles since launching its service in Las Vegas and starting the Zoox Explorers program in San Francisco last year. The company also reports serving more than 300,000 riders during that time.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Zoox already operates across multiple cities, but expanding into Dallas and Phoenix shows a push to scale testing quickly across large U.S. metros. Moves like this suggest the company is accelerating deployments as the autonomous ride-hailing race heats up.
