  • Zoox vehicles designed specifically for automated ride service will become available through the Uber app, starting with Las Vegas this summer.
  • The companies plan to expand availability to Los Angeles by mid-2027 while Zoox continues operating its own separate rider application.

Zoox and Uber announced a partnership that will bring Zoox's purpose-built autonomous vehicles onto Uber’s ride-hailing platform. Riders requesting trips through the Uber app may be paired with one of the self-driving vehicles where the service is offered.

“The Zoox robotaxi is unlike any other vehicle on the planet – it was purpose-built from the ground up to deliver an extraordinary experience,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, in an official news release. “Zoox’s commitment to safety and their advanced autonomous driving technology make them an ideal partner. We’re thrilled to work together to introduce more riders to the future of mobility.”

The rollout is scheduled to begin in Las Vegas during the summer. The companies also outlined plans to extend the service to Los Angeles by the middle of 2027.

Zoox currently operates or is preparing robotaxi service across several U.S. cities. Active locations include Las Vegas and San Francisco, with Austin and Miami listed as upcoming service areas. The company has also announced expanded testing operations to Dallas and Phoenix, bringing its total number of testing locations to ten.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

This partnership gives Zoox immediate access to Uber’s massive rider network instead of scaling demand city by city. For Uber, it adds a purpose-built autonomous vehicle to its platform as robotaxi competition accelerates.
