  • EASA, Airbus Helicopters, and Loft Dynamics launched a VR-based training program aimed at improving pilot readiness in Nepal’s demanding flight environment.
  • The initiative introduces simulator sessions for Nepali helicopter pilots focused on mountain operations and emergency scenarios using a Loft Dynamics H125 system.

Virtual reality helicopter training is arriving in Nepal through a new safety initiative involving the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, Airbus Helicopters, and Loft Dynamics. The program targets pilot preparation in a country where helicopters play a key role in transport, rescue missions, and tourism.

“At Airbus Helicopters, our unwavering priority is to move the industry toward a future of zero accidents,” said Arnd von Fabeck, head of aviation safety management and international network at Airbus Helicopters in a press release. “Achieving this requires more than just advanced aircraft; it requires pilots who are prepared for the most unforgiving conditions. By showcasing Loft Dynamics’ VR technology with our specialized training curricula during this dedicated Safety Roadshow, we are providing Nepali pilots with a concrete hands-on training experience to master mountain flying and emergency scenarios. This initiative is a vital step in our global mission to enhance operational safety through innovation and local empowerment.”

The month-long training program takes place in Kathmandu and features a Loft Dynamics H125 simulator used for hands-on flight instruction. Courses developed by Airbus Helicopters follow International Civil Aviation Organization standards. As part of the initiative, all Nepali helicopter pilots must complete four hours of simulator training focused on mountain flying and H125 recurrent emergency procedures.

The initiative is part of the EU–South Asia Aviation Partnership Project, a regional program led by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. The effort supports aviation safety cooperation and technical collaboration with civil aviation authorities and industry partners across South Asia.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Bringing VR simulator training to Nepal gives helicopter pilots a way to practice mountain flying and emergency situations in a controlled environment. For a country where helicopters are essential for transport, rescue, and tourism, improving pilot preparation directly impacts safety.
