Trigo’s New AI System Gives Retail Cameras Brains

- Trigo Retail has launched a loss prevention platform that cross-checks scanned items with what shoppers pick up in real time.
- The system uses existing CCTV and POS infrastructure to detect unscanned items before customers leave the store.
Trigo Retail has introduced a new AI-powered loss prevention solution, building on its computer vision technology, which is already used in autonomous stores by major retailers like Tesco and REWE. The platform detects mismatches between scanned and picked-up items and alerts staff immediately without adding capital costs.
"Trigo's mission is to empower retailers with cutting-edge Computer Vision AI technology to address the sector's biggest challenges," said Daniel Gabay, CEO of Trigo, in an official press release. "With retail theft on the rise, we are proud to launch a solution that integrates easily into existing estates and delivers quick and efficient loss prevention, along with an improved experience for both retailers and customers."
This approach tackles a key blind spot in traditional setups, where theft often occurs before checkout. By tracking movement throughout the store and focusing on high-risk areas, the system spots concealment early and works across all checkout types, including self-checkout and Scan&Go.
The system connects to a store’s existing CCTV setup through its Network Video Recorder and plugs into the Point of Sale system. That means no new hardware is needed, making it quick to install with little disruption. It’s also designed to protect customer privacy, with no biometric data collected or stored.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
Trigo’s retail solution is a strong example of how AI can give computers the power of perception. Sensors like CCTV cameras have long given retail systems eyes to see the world around them. But it’s AI that transforms that raw visual data into understanding, turning sight into recognition. Trigo is showing how this capability can be applied to real-world challenges, like identifying and preventing theft.
