  • New Autonomy Drive Styles let drivers select AI driving behavior presets, Mild, Medium, or Spicy, while using assisted features.

Rivian has introduced Universal Hands-Free, an upgrade that expands hands-free assisted driving support from 135,000 miles to over 3.5 million miles of roads across the U.S. and Canada. The feature now works on and off highways, provided lane markings are visible, and is available for Gen 2 vehicles via its latest software update.

The update also debuts Rivian's Autonomy Drive Styles, giving drivers three behavioral presets, Mild, Medium, and Spicy, while using driver assistance modes like Universal Hands-Free, Highway Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Change on Command. Each preset adjusts acceleration, following distance, and lane change dynamics.

Rivian has updated the Autonomy View on the Driver Display to provide a wider rear perspective, giving drivers better visual context for lane changes and turns. A new control also allows drivers to adjust set speed using the right thumbwheel, making it easier to interact with assisted driving features on the move.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Rivian is expanding its autonomy from limited highways to millions of miles, and letting drivers choose how it behaves. Scale and control are the key updates here.
