Pudu Robotics Launches D5 Series Autonomous Quadrupeds for Outdoor and Industrial Terrain
- The D5 Series includes legged and wheeled models built to navigate rough terrain, slopes, stairs, and large-scale outdoor environments.
- Designed for inspection, logistics, and emergency tasks, the robots integrate real-time perception, autonomous mapping, and rugged mobility.
Pudu Robotics has launched the PUDU D5 Series, a new line of industry-grade autonomous quadruped robots engineered for complex, real-world terrain. The company developed the D5 to meet automation demands in environments that are uneven, multi-level, or exposed to weather. The D5 Series includes a four-legged unit built for rough terrain and a wheeled model optimized for hybrid indoor-outdoor settings.
"The PUDU D5 series represents a significant leap forward in our vision for robotics. The D5 successfully brings advanced autonomy, rugged mobility, and intelligent interaction into the complex outdoor and industry-grade scenarios", said Felix Zhang, Founder and CEO at Pudu Robotics, in a press release. "For Pudu, the D5 is not merely a new product, but a milestone in our mission to push robots deeper into more applications. We are building a collaborative ecosystem of 'specialized, semi-humanoid, and humanoid robots' that, by complementing each other's capabilities, can comprehensively meet the diverse needs of our users."
The system runs on a dual-processor architecture featuring NVIDIA Orin and RK3588, supporting simultaneous SLAM, 3D mapping, object detection, and path planning. The robots use four wide-angle cameras and two high-resolution LiDAR sensors to deliver full-surround perception and generate dense 3D maps. They can autonomously navigate areas up to one million square meters, travel 14 kilometers on a single charge, and carry payloads of up to 30 kilograms. Mobility is reinforced by a wheel-leg hybrid design capable of climbing 30-degree slopes and stepping over stairs, while IP67 sealing and cold-start functionality support operation in harsh outdoor conditions.

The D5 Series is designed for field operations that demand autonomy in hard-to-reach or unpredictable environments, such as inspection, patrol, logistics support, and emergency response. Operators can guide missions through natural interaction, using hand gestures or voice commands that remain reliable even in noisy conditions. The robotโs ability to follow safely through crowded or narrow areas, combined with remote visualization tools, gives users real-time oversight and control across large, high-traffic sites like airports, metro systems, and industrial facilities.
๐ Tomโs Take:
Not every robot needs to look the same, or solve the same problem. Terrain, task, and environment shape the form factor. Puduโs legged-and-wheeled approach is a clear example of design following function.
