  • Mass production of Pony.ai’s seventh-generation robotaxis began in June and July with GAC and BAIC vehicle models.
  • The company has started real-world testing in Guangzhou and Shenzhen as it targets a 1,000-vehicle fleet by the end of 2025.

Pony.ai has officially started building and testing its newest Robotaxi models. After debuting its Gen-7 autonomous driving system at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, the company began production in June with GAC and followed up with BAIC models in July.

This next-gen system stands out for using only automotive-grade components, a first in the field according to Pony.ai, while slashing the cost of its autonomous driving kit by 70% compared to the previous version. It also features a flexible, platform-based design that makes it easier to roll out across different vehicles.

Just weeks after production started, the new Robotaxis hit public roads in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. With sights set on a 1,000-vehicle fleet by the end of next year, Pony.ai says this lays the groundwork for broader commercial rollout.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Automotive-grade hardware, lower kit costs, and deep integration with partners give Pony.ai a solid production base. These moves set a clear foundation for scaling up robotaxi deployment.
