Oura Acquires Doublepoint and Shifts Gesture Tech In-House
- Doublepoint said Oura has acquired the company and that its future work will move into Oura products.
- The company said it will discontinue its standalone products as part of that shift.
Doublepoint announced that Oura has acquired the company. Doublepoint provides gesture recognition technology for smartwatches, wristbands, and other wearables. In its message to the community, the company said Oura’s mission is to make technology support everyday life quietly in the background, which it said aligns with where it has always wanted its work to sit.
The company said the acquisition changes where it will focus its efforts. Instead of continuing standalone support for its apps and SDK, Doublepoint said it is focusing on integrating its gesture technology into future Oura products.
As part of that shift, Doublepoint said it will discontinue standalone support for WowMouse, WowPlay, WowMouse Presenter, and Touch SDK. The company said removals from app stores and distribution channels begin on the shutdown date, backend-dependent features will stop working, and no further maintenance or compatibility updates are planned.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
This looks like a way for Oura to expand what its products can do by bringing Doublepoint’s gesture tech in-house.
