  • Limitless, maker of the Pendant wearable, spent five years developing tools to augment human memory and focus.

AI wearable company Limitless has been acquired by Meta, according to a statement from co-founder and CEO Dan Siroker. He said the two companies “share this vision” to bring personal superintelligence to everyone, aligning with Limitless’s mission to “free the human mind from its biological limitations.”

Founded five years ago, Limitless focused on creating tools to augment, rather than replace, human intelligence. Its team, which includes alumni from Apple, Google, Meta, SpaceX, and Spotify, built an AI-enabled wearable device called the Pendant to help users improve memory and focus. The company reported it has raised over $33 million from investors, including Sam Altman, Andreessen Horowitz, First Round Capital, and NEA.

"When we started Limitless five years ago, the world was very different. AI was a pipe dream to many. Hardware startups were considered unfundable, and a business that did both AI and hardware would have been considered ludicrous," said CEO Dan Siroker in an official announcement. "But today is different. The world has changed. We're no longer working on a weird fringe idea. We're building a future that now seems inevitable. We're not alone. Meta recently announced a new vision to bring personal superintelligence to everyone, and a key part of that vision is building incredible AI-enabled wearables. We share this vision, and we'll be joining Meta to help bring our shared vision to life."

Sales of the Pendant have ended, but Limitless stated that existing customers will continue to receive support for at least another year. All current users will be upgraded to the Unlimited Plan at no cost. The company also launched a new feature to help customers export or delete their data.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

With its focus on memory and cognition, Limitless complements Meta’s existing AI wearables push, adding depth to a strategy already taking shape with devices like Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
