  • Digit robots will assist with fulfillment tasks in Texas, with future expansion plans across Latin America.
  • The rollout aims to reduce labor gaps in physically demanding roles and improve workplace ergonomics.

Mercado Libre has entered a commercial agreement with Agility Robotics to deploy Agility's humanoid robot, Digit, at its fulfillment center in San Antonio, Texas. The deployment serves as an initial step in evaluating the role of humanoid robots within Mercado Libre’s logistics operations across Latin America.

Digit will begin by supporting commerce fulfillment activities, with potential to take on additional responsibilities in logistics operations in Mercado Libre's warehouses. According to the companies, the robots are intended to help fill labor gaps in roles that are physically demanding and repetitive, while also improving ergonomic safety for workers. Digit is built to operate in environments designed for people, with the ability to walk, carry, and transport items through warehouse aisles without the need for facility modifications. It can adjust to new tasks over time and is overseen through Agility’s cloud platform, which connects with existing systems such as mobile robots, conveyor belts, and warehouse management tools.

According to Agility Robotics, Digit has already moved over 100,000 totes in active warehouse environments. Mercado Libre joins other major companies currently adopting the technology, including Amazon and GXO.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

If Digit proves its value in live operations, it could reset how companies think about automating hard-to-staff warehouse work.
