  • Meow Wolf and Niantic Spatial are developing location-based AR experiences powered by Niantic’s Visual Positioning System.
  • A closed beta will launch at Meow Wolf’s Convergence Station in Denver to test interactive, geospatial storytelling later this year.

Meow Wolf and Niantic Spatial are collaborating on a new AR concept that extends Meow Wolf’s immersive universe beyond its physical exhibitions. The project explores how geospatial technology can bring its story worlds into everyday environments.

“This partnership with Niantic Spatial can open portals to an entirely new layer of imagination,” said Vince Kadlubek, Meow Wolf Co-Founder and Chief Vision Officer, in an official press release. “The world becomes a canvas for creative expression—a scavenger hunt for physical and digital art.”

A closed beta will debut later this year at Meow Wolf’s Convergence Station in Denver. This initial activation will test how AR layers connect physical spaces, including city streets, parks, and public spaces, with the narrative-driven discovery inside the exhibition.

Participants may unlock digital portals, complete real-world quests, and contribute to shared storylines. Proposed features include location-based art encounters, in-exhibit rewards, and tools for co-creating content within the Meow Wolf universe.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Meow Wolf is known for its other worldly location-based entertainment created through elaborate sets and props. Augmented reality not only allows for more extraordinary experiences, which are no longer constrainted by the physical limitations of the real-world, but also allow for the Meow Wolf experience to scale beyond its walls and extending it to more locations.
