Hyundai Prepares to Manufacture Modular Autonomous Robot 'MobED'
- MobED is a compact autonomous robot designed for tasks like delivery, logistics, research, and broadcasting across indoor and outdoor environments.
- It features AI-based navigation, LiDAR and camera sensors, real-time posture control, and a modular design for customizable attachments.
Hyundai Motor Group has introduced MobED, an autonomous robot designed for tasks in both industrial and everyday settings. Developed by the Group’s Robotics LAB, MobED (short for Mobile Eccentric Droid) is a modular platform built for applications such as delivery, logistics, broadcasting, and research.

Built for both indoor and outdoor use, the robot uses LiDAR and camera sensors and its AI-based navigation to detect obstacles and move safely through crowded spaces. It adjusts its posture and height in real time to stay balanced on uneven ground and can travel smoothly in any direction with precise control. The robot can be customized for different tasks by adding tools or equipment, thanks to its modular design. A touchscreen interface with simple controls makes operation accessible, even for users without technical expertise.

Hyundai is releasing two versions of the robot. The Pro model features like ‘follow-me’ mode thanks to its advanced autonomous capabilities for use in outdoor or commercial settings. The Basic version provides the core mobility features without built-in autonomy intended for research and development. Originally introduced as a concept in 2022, MobED is now production-ready, with manufacturing planned for the first half of 2026.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
MobED getting it ready for production suggests Hyundai sees a real role for this kind of robot in everyday settings.
