DoorDash Expands Robot Delivery with Coco in Los Angeles and Chicago

- DoorDash has rolled out sidewalk robot delivery with Coco in Los Angeles and Chicago.
- The expansion follows over 100,000 deliveries during an earlier pilot through Wolt in Helsinki.
DoorDash and Coco Robotics have launched sidewalk robot delivery in Los Angeles and Chicago, marking their integrated service's first full U.S. rollout. Nearly 600 merchants are now offering the option to eligible customers through the DoorDash app.
“Partnering with Coco and DoorDash has allowed us to consistently deliver fresh food to our customers on time,” said Eric Dela Cruz, owner of Main Chick Hot Chicken in Los Angeles, in a news release on the DoorDash website. “We worked with Coco to establish a ‘taxi line’ of robots so we can get food out to our customers faster, even during our busiest hours. The improved operational efficiency translates directly into happier guests and stronger repeat business. We’re excited about what this partnership means for our growth.”
The two companies previously tested the service in Helsinki through Wolt, DoorDash’s international brand. That pilot phase completed more than 100,000 deliveries and helped lay the groundwork for this broader launch. Coco has been active in Los Angeles since 2020 and recently added Chicago, Miami, and Helsinki to its service areas, operating a fleet of over 1,000 emissions-free delivery robots.
DoorDash says the move is part of its effort to build a multimodal delivery network. By combining robots, drones, and human couriers, the company aims to improve logistics, cut emissions, and offer more flexible options for local businesses.
🌀 Tom's Take:
While humanoid robots in the home may be further off, most people will likely meet a robot in the service industry. With this expansion, DoorDash and Coco are making robotic encounters a routine part of daily life.
