  • Marvel's Rocket Raccoon was rendered live using LIMINAL's spatial LED and ILM mocap during the Disney Accelerator Demo Day on the Walt Disney Studios Lot.
  • Disney says LIMINAL is now working with Disney Imagineering and Disney Experiences to explore future immersive applications.

At Disney Accelerator Demo Day, LIMINAL Space teamed up with Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) to run a live demo of its spatial LED technology. The showcase took place on the Walt Disney Studios Lot and featured Marvel Studios’ Rocket Raccoon rendered in real time. ILM’s markerless motion capture was combined with LIMINAL’s holographic display system to let Rocket appear and interact as a walk-around character.

LIMINAL’s spatial display systems deliver immersive 3D visuals using lightweight polarized glasses for passive viewing. Ghost Tile is built for large venues like arenas and concerts. It features up to 2,500 nits of brightness, a 3,840 Hz refresh rate, and a wide 140° viewing angle to ensure image clarity is maintained across big spaces. Spirit Tile is optimized for close-range settings such as dark rides and indoor attractions. It offers a finer 1.95 mm pixel pitch and an ultra-high 7,680 Hz refresh rate for a deep stereoscopic effect. Both systems support playback up to 240 frames per second and integrate with real-time engines like Unreal, Notch, and Disguise.

The Rocket Raccoon demo showed how LIMINAL’s display tech can be used for live, high-resolution character performance. Rocket responded to guests in real time, showing how spatial LED and mocap can combine for immersive storytelling. Disney says that LIMINAL Space is "exploring potential applications with Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development and Disney Experiences to create new experiences and enhance existing attractions."

🌀 Tom’s Take:

LIMINAL’s tech could give parks a way to deliver real-time, interactive characters without headsets or projection rooms, opening the door to immersive shows, ride scenes, or walkthroughs that feel alive and responsive.
