  • Zoox has officially activated its self-driving ride service in Las Vegas.
  • The launch sets the stage for expansion into new cities, including San Francisco, Austin, and Miami.

Zoox is now live in Las Vegas, offering its autonomous ride-hailing service to the public after months of testing. The company says this is the first time a fully driverless service is operating in vehicles built specifically for autonomy. Zoox's vehicles are designed without a steering wheel or pedals.

Rides in Las Vegas are free to start, giving the public a chance to try the service and share feedback before Zoox introduces fares. Pickups and drop-offs happen at designated ride-hail zones, with dedicated areas at Resorts World Las Vegas and AREA15. These locations include on-site Concierges to help new riders get started and answer questions. The Zoox app shows estimated arrival times, vehicle license plate numbers, and provides support before, during, and after the ride.

Zoox is already preparing to expand beyond Las Vegas. San Francisco, Austin, and Miami are listed as upcoming service areas, with testing now underway in each. These cities represent the next phase of the company’s rollout as it moves from limited pilots to broader public access.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

This is a major milestone for vehicles built specifically for autonomy. It also signals that the robotaxi market is finally entering a competitive phase.
