  • Waymo will launch its fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Dallas in 2026, through a new partnership with Avis Budget Group.
  • The expansion builds on Waymo’s operations across five cities and over 250,000 weekly paid rides.

Waymo announced it will launch its self-driving ride service in Dallas in 2026. Riders will be able to hail a Waymo through the app to travel across downtown and the wider metro area.

The launch will be supported by a new multi-year partnership with Avis Budget Group, which will manage fleet infrastructure, readiness, maintenance, and depot operations. Avis will help scale Waymo’s operations quickly, combining its logistics expertise with Waymo’s autonomous technology. Waymo reported that Dallas is just the start of its partnership with Avis and intends to expand to more cities over time.

“Our partnership with Waymo marks a pivotal milestone in our evolution, from a rental car company to a leading provider of fleet management, infrastructure and operations to the broader mobility ecosystem,” said Brian Choi, Chief Executive Officer, Avis Budget Group, in an official news release. “Together, we’re committed to making scaled autonomous mobility a reality for the people of Dallas, with plans to expand to additional cities in the near future.”

Dallas joins Waymo’s list of upcoming expansion cities, including Miami and Washington, D.C. The company currently operates in five cities and reports it has handled over 250,000 paid trips weekly and driven millions of autonomous miles across the cities in which it is currently active.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Waymo is making its way fast across major cities in the USA. Its partnership with Avis could help accelerate its availability even quicker by leaning on the auto rental group for its decades long fleet management experience.
