Waymo has started fully autonomous driving in five new U.S. cities, beginning today in Miami. The company says it will activate rider-only operations in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando in the coming weeks, ahead of opening the service to the public next year.
Waymo has been expanding rapidly across the U.S. The company said its growth relies on a consistent process, a generalizable Driver AI, and a standardized operational playbook. This includes testing the Waymo Driver against a known baseline, adjusting for local conditions, and validating results through real-world driving and simulation.
Earlier this month, Waymo announced it now offers autonomous freeway trips to public riders in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The company has also expanded Bay Area coverage to include the full Peninsula and curbside service at San Jose International Airport.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
With multiple rollouts under its belt, Waymo is operating like a well-oiled machine, methodical, repeatable, and built for scale.
