VB Spine Signs Deal for Exclusive Rights to Augmedics’ xvision Spine System
- VB Spine signed a definitive agreement to acquire exclusive rights to the xvision Spine System from Augmedics, adding AR navigation to its visualization portfolio.
- The FDA-cleared platform has been used in nearly 13,000 spine procedures and is intended to aid surgeons in precisely locating anatomical structures.
VB Spine, the largest privately held spine company, has signed a definitive agreement for exclusive rights to the xvision Spine System from Augmedics. The transaction will add augmented reality navigation to its growing visualization portfolio.
Augmedics is the first company to offer an FDA-cleared AR navigation platform in spine surgery. The xvision Spine System is designed to provide visualization while looking directly at the patient, as part of an AR navigation platform. Augmedics points to accuracy and precision, workflow efficiency, and radiation reduction, and says nearly 13,000 patients have been treated with xvision.
VB Spine said this transaction builds on its recent acquisition of the SpineHawk intraoperative spinal visualization platform from Robotron Surgical Technologies and represents a foundational element in a broader enhanced visualization technology strategy. Subject to closing, both companies intend to work together to support an orderly transition for customers.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
By securing exclusive rights to xvision, VB Spine is locking AR into its own spine ecosystem. That gives the company control over how this FDA-cleared navigation platform is deployed, integrated, and scaled across its portfolio.
