  • Developers can now build or adapt Unity apps for Android XR using official tools for spatial features like face tracking, hand input, and occlusion.
  • Launch titles on Samsung’s Galaxy XR include new and ported Unity projects from Owlchemy Labs, Google, and StatusPRO.

Unity 6 now fully supports Android XR, following early testing with Google and Samsung. Developers can use it to build apps for Galaxy XR and contribute to the wider Android XR ecosystem.

“By collaborating closely with Google and Samsung, we integrated Android XR tools into Unity 6 early and verified them with developers in real production environments ahead of the launch,” said Alex Blum, COO at Unity, in an official news release. “We’re not just optimizing for one headset — we’re building for an open, scalable Android XR ecosystem where developers can reach new markets with less lift and more confidence.”

The new support is powered by the Unity OpenXR: Android XR package, which includes tools for face tracking, hand tracking, spatial anchoring, occlusion, and optimized rendering. These features allow developers to bring real-world interactivity to AR Foundation projects without custom implementations.

Games and apps built with Unity are available on Galaxy XR starting today. Titles include Owlchemy Labs’ Inside [JOB], Google Maps XR with immersive location views, and the NFL’s official VR simulation game, NFL Pro Era.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Day-one support for Android XR on Galaxy XR is a key move from Unity, as developers will ultimately prove the value of the device through their applications and content.
