Uber and WeRide Launch Robotaxi Service in Saudi Arabia
- Autonomous Robotaxi rides from WeRide are now available on Uber’s app for select trips in Riyadh.
- This is the first time self-driving vehicles are publicly accessible through Uber in the Kingdom.
Uber and WeRide have introduced autonomous passenger rides in Riyadh, offering self-driving Robotaxis on Uber’s platform for the first time in Saudi Arabia. Riders can book the service between Roshn Front and Princess Noura University.
The deployment was initiated in partnership with the Transport General Authority and supports national efforts to advance smart transportation. Each vehicle currently includes an onboard safety operator, with future plans to go fully driverless.
WeRide’s autonomous systems have been deployed or trialed in more than 30 cities across 11 countries. The company holds self-driving permits in seven regions, including China, the UAE, Singapore, France, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, and the US.

Uber has been making significant announcements in autonomous rideshare. In addition to this partnership with WeRide in Saudi Arabia, it recently committed to deploy 100,000 robotaxis in 2027 in partnership with NVIDIA and plans to launch autonomous rides in San Francisco in 2026.
