Tobii Earns Approval for Single-Camera Vehicle Sensing Platform

- Tobii’s single-camera interior sensing platform will go into production with a premium European automaker starting in late 2025.
- The system combines driver and occupant monitoring in one unit, reducing hardware complexity and integration costs.
Tobii’s in-cabin sensing system has been approved for use in a premium European automaker’s vehicle line. Developed by Tobii Autosense, the platform will enter production in the second half of 2025 and run for four years.
Unlike traditional setups that rely on multiple sensors, the platform delivers both driver and occupant monitoring through a single camera. This approach lowers material costs, simplifies design, and supports a more flexible integration process for automotive manufacturers.
The system recently passed formal safety and compliance checks required for use in vehicles—a milestone known as homologation. Tobii Autosense has secured design wins for over 150 vehicle models, with its monitoring systems currently deployed in more than 700,000 vehicles on the road.
“Homologation confirms the strength of our platform and the strategic focus behind our investment. What was once a bold vision is now a production-ready solution,” said Adrian Capata, Senior Vice President of Tobii Autosense, in an official press release. “For OEMs, the homologation of our latest single-camera solution means faster compliance, lower complexity, and a more cost-effective path to next-gen safety and user experience. By unifying DMS and OMS, we help partners simplify integration, cut BOM costs, and increase design flexibility — all while meeting the highest automotive standards.”
