Starbucks is scaling a new AI-powered inventory tool designed to overhaul how its stores manage stock. Staff now scan items using handheld devices, instantly surfacing real-time availability and reducing the need for manual backroom checks.
Created in partnership with NomadGo, the system fuses spatial intelligence, visual recognition, and augmented overlays to rapidly assess shelf contents. It can flag low quantities, and future updates will allow it to initiate restocking automatically.
According to the company, the platform is already active in thousands of locations, enabling faster, more frequent counts. Starbucks plans to deploy it across all company-operated stores in North America by the end of September, marking a shift toward data-driven supply management.
