Snap Expands Lens Creation and Adds Spectacles Speech-To-Text in 5.9 Update

- Lens Studio 5.9 introduces synced lyric templates, dynamic Bitmoji effects, and new face-tracking scopes for custom visuals.
- Spectacles gain multilingual voice recognition with adjustable settings and a streamlined device preview interface.
Snap has released Lens Studio 5.9, adding a Music Lyrics sample project that lets creators sync animated visuals to song lyrics using screen text, 3D objects, and Bitmoji. The project includes ready-made assets to help build interactive music experiences quickly.
The update adds new tools for visual storytelling, including floating speech and thought bubbles tied to facial or Bitmoji movement, plus customizable effects like mouth-driven particle streams. Face-tracking works across multiple inputs, and a wider range of head shapes inspired by objects and foods expands visual style options.
Spectacles users can now transcribe speech across many languages with a built-in tool that adjusts for pacing and silence. A redesigned preview system simplifies testing by showing only the features available on the connected device.
🌀 Tom's Take:
Snap is doubling down on mobile AR by making it easier for creators to build Lenses with more templates and toolkits. At the same time, it continues to strengthen content creation for Spectacles, which remains its bet on the future.
