  • Viewers of the “Seven Wonders” series can use their phones to bring ancient sites into their own rooms through Augmented Reality.
  • Snapchat’s AR Studio in Paris built the experience to let audiences explore each landmark while watching the show.

Snapchat and Bettany Hughes have partnered on a new TV series that links broadcast content with interactive AR inside viewers' homes. The series, produced with SandStone Global, explores the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

As the show airs, QR codes appear on screen. Scanning them with a phone launches AR experiences through Snapchat, placing virtual recreations of sites like the Great Pyramid and Hanging Gardens directly into the viewer’s space.

The AR content is accessible both during the show and online, making it possible to explore the ancient world without leaving home. The series airs on Channel 5 and streams weekly in the UK.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Creating a bridge to bring flat TV screen content into the viewer's living room is one of the powers of augmented reality. This is a fantastic way to introduce AR to new users and to engage them in an experience that will make the content on screen feel even more meaningful.
