Ring Adds Face and Pet Recognition to New 4K Cameras

- Ring’s updated cameras now include built-in AI to recognize familiar faces and missing pets.
- The new models feature 2K and 4K resolution with improved imaging and zoom.
Ring has launched a new line of security cameras and doorbells that combine high-resolution video with built-in AI recognition. Using a new imaging system called Retinal Vision, the devices can now identify familiar people and detect missing pets directly through the camera feed. The lineup includes both 2K and 4K models, such as the Wired Doorbell Pro and Outdoor Cam Pro, and is designed to make the cameras not just sharper, but smarter.
One of the main features is Familiar Faces, which recognizes individuals seen regularly and helps reduce alerts caused by them. Another tool called Search Party allows outdoor cameras to look for missing dogs when a neighbor reports one lost in the Ring app. If a camera spots a potential match, it alerts the owner, who can view the footage and choose whether to share it with the person searching.

Other updates include a 10x zoom, improved night video, and new Power over Ethernet options for several models. A feature called Alexa+ Greetings lets Alexa respond to visitors by asking questions, giving delivery instructions, or relaying messages. These updates aim to improve how Ring cameras see, respond, and assist in daily activities.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
Ring has normalized cameras as part of everyday home life. With AI now built in, they’re becoming the eyes of a truly smart home. One that is able to see, understand, and respond.
