Retail Shelf Robot Tally Earns UL 3300 Safety Certification

• Simbe announced that its autonomous shelf-scanning robot Tally received UL 3300 certification from UL Solutions after independent testing.

Simbe said its robot Tally has received UL 3300 certification from UL Solutions, a safety standard for service robots operating in public-facing environments. The company said it is the first retail robotics company to earn this certification. Simbe said its systems are deployed across 10 countries and used by retailers operating in nearly a dozen industry sectors.

"This UL 3300 certification confirms what our retail partners, and their store teams and customers, experience daily: Tally is retail's favorite robot because it operates safely in the real world. This milestone reflects our commitment to people-first automation."

UL 3300 establishes requirements for mechanical, electrical, and software systems used by robots in environments where people are present. According to the announcement, Tally and its charging dock completed a third-party evaluation that included more than 40 safety tests. The tests evaluated how the robot operates around people. This included its detection and stopping systems, control system safeguards, mechanical protections for public spaces, charging safety, stability on retail flooring and fixtures, and the reliability of electrical, battery, and electromagnetic systems.

Simbe said Tally scans store aisles multiple times per day to identify out-of-stock items, pricing discrepancies, and misplaced products. The resulting shelf-level insights are delivered through its Store Intelligence platform via mobile and dashboard tools used by store and corporate teams. The company said its technology operates across more than 55 retail banners worldwide.

UL 3300 certification matters because it confirms a robot has been independently tested to operate safely around people. For machines moving through busy retail aisles, that validation helps build trust that the technology can reliably share space with shoppers and store staff.
