Purdue and Apple Launch Spatial Computing Hub with Apple Vision Pro
- Purdue and Apple collaborate to establish a spatial computing hub, launching in Fall 2025.
- A new graduate certificate in spatial computing will be introduced within Purdue's existing master's program.
Purdue University will introduce a new spatial computing hub in Fall 2025, developed in partnership with Apple and anchored by Apple Vision Pro. The initiative is designed to support research, education, and industry collaboration, with a focus on fields like semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
As part of the effort, Purdue will roll out a graduate-level certificate in spatial computing, integrated into its current Master of Science curriculum in software engineering and microelectronics. The university also plans to expand its offerings with additional credit and non-credit courses tailored for both technical and nontechnical learners.
“We’re excited to offer programs that use Apple Vision Pro to foster a vibrant ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship in the emerging field of spatial computing, which will set up Purdue students to succeed in the future,” said Dimitrios Peroulis, Purdue senior vice president for partnerships and online.
Research teams across Purdue are already applying augmented reality and spatial tools in domains such as AI, advanced manufacturing, and digital twins. The new hub will draw on this experience to build immersive learning environments that prepare students for careers in spatial computing.
🌀 Tom's Take:
University programs are essential to shaping the next generation and giving them the skills they need to succeed. This collaboration between Purdue and Apple turns spatial computing into a core academic discipline which positions the class of 2025 and onward to lead in this next wave of computing.
