POSCO Invests $3M in U.S. Humanoid Robotics Startup Persona AI
- POSCO Group is investing in Persona AI to support joint development and deployment of humanoid robots at industrial sites.
- The collaboration aims to combine robotics and AI to automate high-risk manual tasks in steel and manufacturing operations.
POSCO DX, a South Korean tech company specializing in digital transformation, has invested $3 million in U.S.-based Persona AI, a startup developing humanoid robots specialized for heavy-duty industrial sites. The investment will support collaboration with Persona AI to develop and apply humanoid robots at industrial worksites.
Persona AI was founded in 2024 by former NASA and Figure AI engineers. The company develops robots capable of precision assembly and heavy-duty handling using multi-axis tactile sensing and adaptive control. Its technology integrates force and position sensing with real-time AI control based on a robot foundation model.
POSCO plans to use these robots to reduce manual labor risks at steel mills and other industrial facilities. The collaboration will also leverage POSCO DX’s industrial AI systems, which already automate equipment like cranes and conveyors without human input.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
POSCO is investing in humanoid robots with plans to use them in its own industrial sites. It’s a sign that major manufacturers are beginning to see humanoid robotics as part of their automation strategy.
