Over 300 VR Apps on Meta Horizon Have Topped $1M, With 10 Surpassing $50M

- Meta revealed strong developer momentum at Connect 2025, spotlighting app revenue milestones on the Horizon Store.
- New tools for monetization, mixed reality, and spatial development were announced for Horizon OS.
At Connect 2025, Meta emphasized growth in its VR ecosystem, reporting that hundreds of apps on the Horizon Store have earned over $1 million, and ten titles have surpassed $50 million in revenue. The annual Developer Keynote gave equal attention to creative tools and features aimed at improving app discovery and monetization across the platform.
The use of AI to speed up development was a recurring theme this year. Meta introduced its MCP, linking its Horizon OS developer tools with code assistants and AI models. It enables developers to generate code, troubleshoot performance issues, ask development questions, and prototype applications using natural language. Meta shared that they are working with Unity on an MCP solution that will be available soon.
Earlier in the year, Meta released its Passthrough Camera API to boost mixed reality app creation on Meta Quest. This API has received updates to improve latency, resolution, and dual camera functionality. Alongside it, Meta expanded its Building Blocks library with modules for passthrough visuals, object recognition, and LLM integration. These ready-made components streamline the process of adding real-world awareness to Unity apps.
Meta also previewed immersive capabilities that expand what's possible for 2D apps on Horizon OS. These upcoming tools include enhanced media playback, support for 3D and panoramic content, and new GSplat rendering features, along with the ability to access real-world visuals through the Passthrough API. The goal is to help developers bring more context and depth into mobile app experiences.
