  • Odders Lab announces it has secured funding of an undisclosed amount from CaixaBank’s DayOne and Axon Partners Group.
  • Funding will support its new strategic focus on augmented reality and smartglasses, which are in the early stages of development.

XR Studio, Odders Lab, has secured new funding from CaixaBank’s DayOne and Axon Partners Group. While the amount was not disclosed, the company said the investment will support a new strategic focus on augmented reality and smartglasses development over the next few years.

Odders Lab is the team behind the widely popular VR fitness app, Les Mills XR BODYCOMBAT, which the company says has sold over 1 million units and has seen over 7 million workouts globally. The studio has launched six applications in its six years across every major XR platform, including Meta Quest, PlayStation VR2, SteamVR, and PICO. Projects for Apple Vision Pro and Android XR are coming soon, according to the company.

Another product by Odders Lab is Make it Stable, a casual game for Meta Quest. This mixed reality game lets players compete to build stacks made up of whimsical animated objects.

Its mixed reality development experience will come in handy for its new strategic focus on augmented reality. "Developing products for MR also pushed us to optimize for performance, gesture-based input, and contextual awareness, which directly translates into creating frictionless, real-world AR experiences," said Jaime Pichardo, Business Director at Odders Lab.

Interest in AR has recently regained momentum, particularly as the consumer smartglasses category is starting to take shape. Players like Snap, Meta, Xreal, and Rokid are all offering consumers glasses with a display, with a device from Google also anticipated. While Odders Lab has not confirmed what platform they are building for, they did tell Remix Reality that they are currently in the early stages of developing a new project for smartglasses and are doing a lot of research and prototyping on multiple AR devices, including some that are not yet on the market.

"Smartglasses represent the natural next step for us. While VR remains a key point to us, smartglasses are the key to daily wear with more casual, social, and persistent experiences — especially in areas like fitness, where AR can enhance motivation and engagement without the friction of a bulky headset," said Pichardo. "We see this combination of fitness and AR as a perfect match, making immersive experiences more accessible, continuous, and truly part of people’s daily routines."

The company's new focus on AR is not at odds with its commitment to VR. Odders Lab told us that while VR premium games aren't seeing much growth at the moment, they are confident in the XR fitness use case to keep bringing in sustainable revenue. Overall, they still remain very optimistic about VR, saying, "We are here for the long game!"

"The emergence of smartglasses won’t replace VR: it complements it, expanding the ecosystem and allowing users to stay connected to mixed reality in more moments throughout their day," said Pichardo. "Together, they mark the evolution toward a truly continuous immersive landscape."

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Odders’ expanded focus on smartglasses and AR signals that the consumer opportunity for headworn content is no longer limited to headsets. It now extends to an emerging class of devices that may offer even greater potential with consumers, thanks to their all-day wearability.
