  • MOIA America and Uber have started on-road testing of autonomous ID. Buzz vehicles in Los Angeles as part of their ongoing partnership.
  • The companies plan to scale testing to over 100 vehicles with human operators and launch rides on the Uber platform in late 2026.

MOIA America and Uber have begun on-road testing of autonomous ID. Buzz vehicles in Los Angeles, advancing their partnership into its next stage. The collaboration, first introduced in April 2025, now includes a joint facility supporting day-to-day fleet operations.

“This milestone marks an important step forward as we prepare to launch autonomous rides with MOIA,” said Sarfraz Maredia, Global Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery at Uber, in an official news release. â€śBy combining the autonomous-ready version of Volkswagen’s iconic ID. Buzz vehicle with MOIA’s advanced autonomous technology and Uber’s global platform, we’re setting the foundation to bring autonomous rides to more riders in Los Angeles and, over time, cities around the world.

During this phase, MOIA plans to expand the fleet to more than 100 vehicles, each equipped with onboard human operators to supervise testing. The ID. Buzz vehicles are part of MOIA’s autonomous mobility platform, with rides on the Uber platform planned for late 2026.

The companies stated plans to scale to thousands of vehicles over time, with a shared goal of introducing driverless ride-hailing services across multiple U.S. markets. MOIA America, formerly Volkswagen ADMT, connects to existing operations in Europe, where testing and ride pooling services are already underway in several cities.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Integration across the vehicle, autonomy system, and ride platform is taking shape. With a clear path to launch and early scale, this partnership is edging closer to real service.
