- The experience is available in Meta Horizon Worlds for Meta Quest or any WebXR browser.
McDonald’s is unveiling McDonaldland VR, an immersive experience set to open August 12 on Meta Horizon Worlds for Meta Quest users and as a browser-based WebXR option. The digital world features interactive zones, games, and character encounters designed to bring the brand’s iconic mascots to life in new ways. McDonald's media agency, Admerasia, developed the experience.
Once inside, fans can drop in on Grimace, Hamburglar, and Birdie, try their luck at the Golden Arches Obstacle Course, or search through the Apple Pie Tree Forest for hidden collectibles. Completing quests unlocks in-game items, including the Mayor McCheese Hat, Burger Buddy Backpack, and Ronald McDonald’s Guitar.
At the same time, McDonald’s will offer the McDonaldland Meal for a limited run at select U.S. restaurants. The meal includes a main item, fries, a Mt. McDonaldland Shake, and one of six character souvenir kits, available while supplies last.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
Virtual worlds and gaming have become a third place for the next generation. In many ways, it is the new social media. McDonald's is tapping into the immediate audience of Horizon Worlds while at the same time making its experience accessible to even more users through the browser.
