Lufthansa Cargo Develops Virtual Training for Aircraft Loading Operations
  • Lufthansa Cargo is developing a VR training program to help aircraft loading supervisors learn safety and handling procedures.
  • The first module will be available in October 2025 as a flexible, cost-saving alternative to traditional training.

Lufthansa Cargo has begun developing a virtual reality training system for aircraft loading supervisors. The training is designed to give staff hands-on practice with procedures, safety rules, and communication in a realistic virtual environment.

"With this project, we are not only strengthening the qualifications of our Aircraft Loading Supervisors, but also our role as an innovation driver in the industry. This technology allows us to train our employees in a practical manner while ensuring the highest safety and efficiency standards," says Momo Ruzic, Station Manager Frankfurt at Lufthansa Cargo, in an official news release.

The virtual reality solution lets staff train without the need for live operations or equipment, making the process more flexible and accessible. Lufthansa Cargo says that the immersive format helps learners stay focused, absorb information more quickly, and develop a stronger understanding. It also reduces the need for physical resources, making it a more environmentally friendly option.

The first training module is set for release in October 2025. Lufthansa Cargo describes this rollout as a first in the air freight sector, furthering its commitment to digital tools and training methods.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

VR was designed for training and simulation, and it's encouraging to see major companies like Lufthansa adopting this technology to improve their staff's skills. With only a headset and space needed, they highlight some of the key advantages of VR training, especially as a more flexible, cost-effective, and greener option compared to traditional training methods.
