  • Lucid Bots introduced painting and coating functionality for its Sherpa Drone, marking the first large-scale robotic system for commercial painting.
  • The modular system delivers projects three times faster and at nearly half the cost, according to the company.

Lucid Bots, a robotics company based in Charlotte, North Carolina, has added painting and coating features to its Sherpa Drone platform, marking what the company says is the first large-scale robotic system for commercial painting. The modular system delivers projects up to three times faster and at nearly half the cost, according to the company.

The company says this technology helps solve the construction labor shortage that has made it harder to keep up with rising infrastructure and building demand. The Sherpa Drone’s modular design lets users add the new painting module without replacing their existing equipment. It can reach up to 160 feet, cover 200 square feet per minute, and run continuously with a power tether.

Lucid Bots has more than 500 robots already in use, with the new module applied in projects such as stadium waterproofing and graffiti removal. Backed by Y Combinator and other investors, the company continues to grow its robotics platform to make difficult and dangerous work safer and more efficient.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

The Sherpa Drone’s modular design shows how one robot can handle different jobs with simple add-ons. Turning a cleaning drone into a painting drone makes automation more flexible, affordable, and useful for industries struggling with labor shortages and safety risks.
