  • Lucid will deliver Hands-Free Drive Assist and Hands-Free Lane Change Assist to Lucid Air vehicles via a software update on July 30.
  • The features expand the DreamDrive Pro system, which leverages a full sensor suite and in-house software for future autonomous development.

Lucid Group is expanding its DreamDrive Pro system with the launch of two hands-free driving features scheduled for release on July 30. Lucid Air owners will receive the update first, with Lucid Gravity vehicles set to follow later this year.

The additions include hands-free highway driving and driver-initiated lane changes, building on a platform designed with long-term autonomy in mind. The DreamDrive Pro system utilizes a combination of 32 sensors, including LiDAR, radar, and multiple camera types, alongside software developed by Lucid to enable its new driver assistance features. These updates will be delivered remotely through a scheduled over-the-air deployment.

Lucid frames the rollout as a milestone in its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving plans, with future capabilities expected to build on the same hardware and software platform.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

It was a smart move by Lucid to bake in the hardware from the start. It lets them roll out autonomy piece by piece as the software matures, starting with the stuff that builds trust, like hands-free highway and lane changes. That’s how you inch forward towards autnomony without overpromising.
