Intuitive Expands Robotic Surgery Platform With Real-Time da Vinci 5 Tools

- Intuitive added Force Gauge, In-Console Video Replay, and remote update support to its da Vinci 5 system.
- The new tools aim to improve surgical precision and hospital efficiency during robotic-assisted procedures.
Intuitive, a robotic surgery company, has added new real-time software features to its da Vinci 5 system. The update includes Force Gauge, In-Console Video Replay, and Network CCM, designed to give surgeons more feedback during operations and help hospitals manage updates more easily. According to the company, these are the first software upgrades for da Vinci 5 and were made possible by computing power that is 10,000 times greater than the previous model.
Force Gauge gives surgeons a live visual readout of how much pressure is being applied through Force Feedback instruments, within a 0–6.5 Newton range. Displayed like a speedometer inside the console, the tool is designed to help avoid excessive force on tissue. According to the company, doctors who have used the feature report that it provides immediate feedback and helps refine technique. A recent study linked the technology to reduced tissue force without affecting patient outcomes.
The update also introduces In-Console Video Replay, which lets surgeons rewatch parts of the same operation without leaving the console. Both new features are available through Network CCM, a remote update system that allows hospitals to deploy software upgrades without manual intervention.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
By visualizing force mid-procedure, da Vinci 5 turns physical intuition into measurable feedback, closing the loop between human touch and machine action.
