Hyphen Secures $25M Series B to Accelerate Automated Makelines

- CAVA joins existing investors to back Hyphen’s national expansion and manufacturing scale-up.
- The investment supports restaurant deployments and service through Re:Build and Ricoh’s technician network.
Hyphen has closed a $25 million Series B round to grow its automated meal production platform. CAVA Group participated as a first-time investor, joining prior backers to fund scaled manufacturing and expanded U.S. rollout.
"This new funding is a testament to the impact Hyphen's team and technology are having on restaurant operations," said Stephen Klein, Co‑Founder and CEO of Hyphen, in a press release. "We are galvanized by this investment to scale our manufacturing, support our growing customer base, and continue innovating as we build the future of foodservice."
Hyphen’s Makeline is a fully automated station that prepares digital food orders with speed and consistency. A suite of sensors, LiDAR, and vision systems guides each meal from start to finish, ensuring precise portions and accurate plating every time. The system connects with third-party ordering platforms, handles a wide range of ingredients, supports large catering batches, and cleans quickly between shifts.
Hyphen counts Chipotle, Aramark, and Compass Group among its customers. CAVA, a publicly traded fast-casual chain specializing in Mediterranean-inspired bowls and pitas, is not only investing but also piloting Hyphen’s system in stores.
"As we continue to scale, we're eager to invest in and test technology that can enhance—not replace—the human experience," said Brett Schulman, Co‑Founder and CEO of CAVA, in a press release. "By piloting Hyphen's automated digital makeline, we have the opportunity to increase order accuracy and speed during peak digital hours, while reducing complexity for our team members. That means more time spent delivering exceptional hospitality and crafting the Mediterranean flavors our guests love. It's a meaningful step in our commitment to operational excellence and innovation that supports both our growth and our people."
🌀 Tom’s Take:
CAVA is putting Hyphen to work in its own kitchens, not just backing it from the sidelines. That dual role as investor and tester shows a direct interest in applying automation to real operations.
