  • Meta Quest’s Horizon OS update debuts a new Immersive Home and retires older environments.
  • New features add a store and arena to Horizon Central, as well as pinning tools in the Passthrough Home experience.

Meta Horizon v81 introduces major changes to the home experience on Meta Quest. Called the Immersive Home, it includes a new visual look and an expanded layout with more areas to navigate, interact with, and customize. Meta cautions that previous home environments will no longer be supported.

Horizon Central, the primary hub for Horizon Worlds, now features faster travel, higher concurrency, and a more detailed layout. It also now has a store where users can discover and try on clothing from top creators, along with a new Arena for enjoying concerts, comedy shows, and NBA games.

The update also introduces app pinning and object placement within the Passthrough Home view. Users can position windowed apps or objects, starting with the Avatar Mirror and Horizon Central portal, directly into their space. Other changes include updated Meta AI logic for smarter responses and improved browser commands, as well as the Universal Menu becoming the default navigation method for most users.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

The home experience is critical to all Meta Quest users, and so updates to this environment are core to the headset user experience. The introduction of a new Immersive Home makes this update a big deal.
