- The agreement names XREAL a lead hardware partner aligned with Google's Android XR roadmap.
Google and XREAL have signed a new multi-year agreement to extend their strategic partnership. The deal names XREAL a lead hardware partner for Android XR, building on its collaboration with Project Aura.
According to the announcement, the partnership will focus on bringing Android XR to optical-see-through devices, including wired XR glasses, and expanding tools and support for developers building on the platform.
This news follows Google’s December 2025 Android showcase, where it revealed more details of Project Aura, XREAL’s tethered AR glasses powered by Android XR. At the event we not only got to see more of the device but also learned more about its specs. Aura features a 70-degree optical see-through display, dual-chip design, and supports both immersive overlays and heads-up content. Further updates on Aura’s 2026 consumer launch are expected later this year.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
This announcement means that more Android XR devices are on the way. XREAL’s multi-year role suggests Google is serious about scaling Android XR across a broader range of form factors, starting with wired AR glasses.
