Figure unveiled its first humanoid robot, Figure 01, in 2023 when it emerged from stealth. Its successor, Figure 02, debuted in late 2024 with a complete hardware and software redesign. Since then, Figure has demonstrated the robot performing complex tasks such as loading a dishwasher and folding laundry, capabilities powered by Helix, the company’s internally developed Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model.

Helix combines perception, reasoning, and motor control to let Figure’s robots see, think, and act. Trained as a large foundational model, it learns from vision, language, and action data through demonstration, simulation, and real-world feedback. Over time, Helix refines its understanding and coordination, serving as the adaptable brain behind Figure’s humanoids.

The announcement of Figure 03 follows several major milestones for the company, including a Series C round exceeding $1 billion at a $39 billion valuation led by Parkway Venture Capital with participation from NVIDIA Ventures, Intel Capital, and others. Figure also announced a partnership with Brookfield, granting access to its global real estate portfolio to gather real-world data for AI training. Video captured across Brookfield’s residential, office, and logistics properties will help train Helix to see, move, and act in natural environments. In parallel, Figure launched Project Go-Big, an initiative to build the largest and most diverse dataset for humanoid training using first-person video from real homes to teach Helix how people move and interact in daily life.

The teaser for Figure 03 highlights several areas of focus in the third-generation robot, including its exterior design, joint mechanics, onboard sensors, and battery system. We’ll share more once full details are released on Thursday.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Figure has moved fast since 2023, evolving from its first prototype to Figure 03 in just two years. The company’s pace and focus make it a key player in a humanoid race that’s quickly becoming one to watch.
