X Square Robot announced a $140 million Series A++ funding round, bringing in new strategic investors including ByteDance and HongShan. The company, founded in December 2023, focuses on general-purpose embodied AI systems and previously received backing from Alibaba Group and Meituan. The new capital will accelerate its product development and real-world deployment.
“We’re honored to have the strong endorsement of our world-class strategic investors,” said WANG Qian, founder and CEO of X Square Robot, in a press release. “At X Square, we believe the key to enabling robots to truly master real-world tasks lies in the 'robot brain'—a foundation model for the physical world that parallels virtual LLMs to shatter generalization bottlenecks. This investment underscores shared confidence in our role as a catalyst for technological progress and will accelerate our expansion into high-value applications.”
At the core of its platform is WALL-A, a proprietary foundation model that combines Vision-Language-Action (VLA) learning with World Models. This approach enables zero-shot generalization and real-world task execution through causal inference and reinforcement learning. X Square also released WALL-OSS, an open-source version launched in September 2025 to expand community collaboration. X Square Robot says it has created advanced data capture tools using methods like teleoperation and exoskeleton that set it up to be "the first company in China to scale up real-world data resources".
X Square Robot has developed two robots, Quanta X1 and the wheeled humanoid Quanta X2, based on its full-stack R&D. The company says that the Quanta X1 recently completed a fully autonomous food delivery mission, handling visual occlusions, packaging deformation, and outdoor conditions with no human intervention. The robot also demonstrated fine manipulation using high-DoF hands, from tool use to precision card dealing.
