  • EARTHBRAIN will add Bentley’s digital twin software to its Smart Construction platform for linked workflows across job sites.
  • The system will combine AI and 3D geospatial tools to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Bentley Systems and EARTHBRAIN have launched a new partnership to advance digital construction. The agreement brings Bentley’s digital twin technology into EARTHBRAIN’s Smart Construction platform, enabling a shared, real-time view of construction workflows. The solution will be initially available in Japan with the opportunity to expand globally.

Digital twins in this context link multiple project stages, from planning through site work, into a single connected system. Bentley’s open, AI-powered tools will allow Smart Construction users to model and track each phase, while Cesium’s 3D geospatial platform supports visualization. The solution aims to enhance safety, productivity, and sustainability at construction sites.

“Our partnership with EARTHBRAIN represents a significant step forward in realizing Bentley’s vision for open, integrated infrastructure solutions," said James Lee, chief operating officer, Bentley Systems, in an official press release. "By combining EARTHBRAIN’s leadership in Smart Construction with our infrastructure engineering capabilities, we’re enabling a new era of intelligent construction—one that’s more connected, efficient, and sustainable.”

Bentley Systems provides engineering software used to design, build, and operate infrastructure across transportation, water, energy, and urban sectors. The company acquired Cesium in 2024 and describes digital twins as central to helping customers improve project delivery and asset performance.

EARTHBRAIN is a joint venture between Komatsu, NTT DOCOMO, Sony Semiconductor Solutions, and Nomura Research Institute. Its Smart Construction solutions and services are already deployed at over 35,000 job sites across Japan.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

The teaming up of Bentley and EARTHBRAIN shows how digital twins can act as the operating layer for physical construction, turning fragmented project phases into one continuous, real-time system.
