Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems and Aeva have announced a partnership to develop new active safety systems for heavy-duty trucks. The plan is to integrate Aeva’s 4D LiDAR and perception software into future versions of Bendix’s driver assistance products, which are currently available on most major Class 8 OEM platforms.

The collaboration is focused on improving performance in scenarios such as nighttime collision mitigation and pedestrian automatic emergency braking. These are use cases where existing radar- and camera-based systems may fall short. The companies aim to support SAE Level 2+ features through the new integration.

Aeva’s sensors deliver both velocity and distance data, enhancing object detection at long range and in difficult conditions. Bendix systems using this technology will be designed for trucks from manufacturers like Paccar, Navistar, and Volvo Group. North America’s commercial truck market sees about 300,000 new Class 8 vehicles sold each year.
