Archetype AI has unveiled a new conceptual and application model for Physical AI called “Lenses,” designed to interpret sensor data in real time. Built on the company’s Newton platform, Lenses are described as continuously operating AI tools that turn raw sensor inputs—such as IMU, camera, and radar data—into actionable insights tailored to specific use cases. Unlike AI agents, which imply autonomy and delegation, Lenses aim to support human understanding and decision-making.

Archetype AI introduces a new concept called Semantic Lenses, or simply Lenses, as an alternative to the common AI agent model. It describes agents as entities that act autonomously on behalf of users, whereas Lenses are designed to interpret data continuously while keeping control in human hands. Each Lens operates based on natural language instructions that define how to translate sensor input into a structured output, and users can adjust interpretation at runtime to suit different needs.

Lens types are grouped into three categories—Summarize, Monitor, and Forecast—each targeting a different temporal dimension of sensor data. Example applications include traffic incident detection, predictive maintenance, and site safety monitoring. Archetype also demonstrated early functionality where Lenses respond to shifts in user intent, such as adjusting a runner’s data interpretation from performance optimization to injury prevention.
