  • Integration of Aptiv’s sensors and machine learning with Robust.AI’s platform will enable advanced, secure robotic workflows.
  • Robust.ai's Carter cobot combines picking, transport, and sorting functions into one flexible system for warehouse automation.

Aptiv and Robust.AI are working together to develop collaborative robots (cobots). The project combines Aptiv’s sensors and machine learning with Robust.AI’s robotics platform to support industrial automation.

The robot will use machine learning tools from Aptiv’s driver assistance systems (ADAS) to support real-time perception and movement planning. This includes Radar ML and Behavior ML, along with the PULSE sensor, a surround-view camera combined with short-range radar that provides accurate 360-degree sensing. These technologies will be built into Robust.AI’s platform, which includes optical sensors, SLAM, a patented holonomic drive, and a force-sensitive handlebar for smooth human control. Aptiv’s computing system will power fast response times, low latency, and the ability to handle multiple tasks at once.

“Aptiv’s expertise in developing advanced AI models, sensors, and real-time operating systems for autonomous vehicles will enhance Carter’s ability to safely collaborate with human operators in dynamic, close-quarter environments,” said Rodney Brooks, Co-Founder and CTO at Robust.AI, in a press release. “Integrating these AI-powered capabilities will enable us to leapfrog even other advanced solutions and bring Carter’s enhanced productivity and efficiency benefits to new industries.”

Carter is a robot made by Robust.AI to help workers with tasks like picking, moving items, and sorting. It uses software to switch between jobs and can be added to a warehouse without major changes. It also collects data to improve how work gets done and adjusts as needs change. The companies plan to use this partnership to bring Carter to more types of industrial settings.

🌀 Tom’s Take:

Adding Aptiv’s PULSE sensor gives Carter a key upgrade, fusing radar with vision for more reliable perception. This moves it beyond camera-only systems and sets it up for tougher, faster-moving environments.
