  • Amazon has integrated more than 750,000 robots, enhancing package fulfillment and employee support.
  • A new Shreveport facility showcases nine advanced systems, including autonomous mobile robots and tactile robotic arms.

Amazon Robotics, launched after the 2012 acquisition of Kiva Systems, now manages a fleet of over 750,000 robots throughout its logistics network. These systems are designed to improve safety, productivity, and delivery speed. The newest fulfillment center in Shreveport, Louisiana, features the most recent advancements in robotic integration.

“Years of innovation have allowed us to build, test, and scale this unique, highly integrated suite of robotics systems that work to support employees fulfilling customer orders,” said Scott Dresser, vice president of Amazon Robotics, in an Amazon press release.

The Shreveport site includes nine robotic systems that handle inventory and packages throughout the fulfillment process. Robots like Sequoia boost storage speed by up to 75%. Vulcan can pick and stow around three-quarters of stored items while maintaining ergonomic alignment, and Cardinal manages packages up to 50 pounds. Packaging systems installed in over 120 U.S. centers have eliminated over 130 million plastic bags this year.

Beyond Shreveport, Amazon continues to scale its robotics infrastructure. Robotic packaging systems retrofitted in over 120 U.S. centers now produce recyclable paper bags, eliminating over 130 million plastic bags this year. These systems rely on AI, computer vision, and cloud-based data processing. A recent MIT study found that 60% of employees working with robotics and AI expect improved job satisfaction, safety, and productivity. Separately, Amazon projects a 25% productivity increase at next-generation fulfillment facilities using this integrated robotics system

🌀 Tom's Take:

Amazon’s 750,000-unit robot fleet is not just a milestone. It is a signal that the supply chain is transforming from within. By rolling out physical AI at scale, Amazon is redefining fulfillment as a human-machine process designed for speed, safety, and constant adaptation.
