AEye Debuts OPTIS, a Full-Stack Lidar System for Real-Time Physical AI

AEye has introduced OPTIS, a new sensing system that utilizes lidar and onboard computing to detect and respond to events in the world in real-time. It combines AEye’s Apollo sensor with NVIDIA’s Jetson Orin chip to deliver high-resolution 3D views and real-time decision-making. OPTIS is already in use for tasks like spotting objects on airport grounds, monitoring perimeters, and coordinating movement in logistics settings.
AEye is opening the OPTIS platform to outside developers by allowing integration with third-party AI solutions. Built on a software-defined architecture, the system is said to bring faster updates, easier integration, and lower costs compared to traditional hardware-based setups. It’s also designed to enhance existing infrastructure, reducing the need for major hardware overhauls.
CEO Matt Fisch said OPTIS builds on the strengths of Apollo to deliver tailored performance without requiring new hardware. With a projected market opportunity exceeding $50 billion, the company views the platform as a key step in expanding into high-value applications, such as smart infrastructure and autonomous mobility.
