8th Wall Launches AI-Native 3D Game Engine with App Export and GenAI Asset Tools

- Developers can now publish 3D and XR experiences as Android apps, expanding beyond web-based delivery.
- New Asset Lab integrates GenAI to generate and import images, models, and animations directly into scenes.
8th Wall has officially launched 8th Wall Studio out of beta, introducing major updates aimed at speeding up immersive content creation. The engine now supports both web and native app development, giving developers the ability to publish experiences on Android, with iOS, desktop, and headset platforms to follow.
With this release, developers can move from concept to app store using a streamlined workflow that combines visual editing with new AI-driven capabilities. 8th Wall says that these updates make it easier to reach broader audiences while reducing production time.
“Today changes what developers can expect from a modern 3D engine,” said Erik Murphy-Chutorian, Founder of 8th Wall, in a press release. “8th Wall now provides a departure from legacy game engines that originated decades ago. With the launch of our AI and native export features, we are ushering in a new era of game development, one that truly embraces cross-platform and integrates AI as a core part of the creation process.”
A standout addition is the new 8th Wall Asset Lab, which enables image and model creation through GenAI tools such as GPT Image 1 and Hunyuan3D. Developers can generate images, 3D assets and rigged and animated characters and instantly add them to their scene in 8th Wall Studio. This is just the start of AI-powered creation tools for the platform. According to 8th Wall, they plan to roll out updates to enable developers to use prompts to create entire scenes soon.
🌀 Tom’s Take:
AI is changing the way developers create content, and 8th Wall knows it. The incorporation of AI asset generation will help developers move away from the cubes and boxes typically used for prototyping, allowing them to use real content instead. But perhaps the most significant aspect of this announcement is 8th Wall's expansion beyond the browser. 8th Wall has long been known as a pioneer in WebAR, and the new ability to deploy content to both web and app stores is a noteworthy advancement.
