  • 1X and NVIDIA collaborated to train the NEO Gamma humanoid robot to autonomously load dishwashers using NVIDIA's GR00T N1 model.
  • The training involved real-world data collection from 1X offices and employee homes, emphasizing safety and close human-robot interaction.

1X Technologies and NVIDIA have partnered to advance AI capabilities in humanoid robotics, focusing on training the NEO Gamma robot to perform household tasks autonomously. The collaboration utilized NVIDIA's GR00T N1 model, an open, customizable foundation model designed for generalized humanoid reasoning and skills. The training process involved collecting data from 1X offices and employee homes, creating a dataset API and an inference SDK to facilitate real-time AI predictions using NVIDIA GPUs.

The teams worked together to develop a model that enables NEO Gamma to grasp a cup, transfer it between hands, and place it in a dishwasher. This task served as a benchmark for verifying the compatibility of external research codebases with 1X's logging and inference architecture. The training was conducted over a week in a 1X employee's home, highlighting the robot's safety features and its ability to operate in close proximity to humans.

The successful demonstration of NEO Gamma's capabilities was showcased during NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's keynote at GTC 2025. The collaboration aims to accelerate the development of humanoid robots that can assist with everyday tasks, emphasizing the importance of real-world testing and human-robot interaction in advancing robotic autonomy.

🌀 Tom's Take:

Ask anyone why they would want a humanoid robot and one of the first things they will say is to do household chores and so this collaboration is not only a powerful tech demo but also hits on a major use case. The training of robots also holds a mirror up to just how complex we are as humans as we watch what it takes to make a robot act just like us.
